Garland attended Roanoke City Public Schools, where he developed a deep appreciation for his community’s diversity. His academic journey led him to Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he pursued a major in Fashion Merchandising. During his time at the university, he honed his skills and developed a keen understanding of the fashion industry.

As the President and Co-Founder of Fashionista Roanoke, Inc., Garland has been instrumental in creating a platform that merges social awareness, education, and the world of fashion. His leadership has been pivotal in establishing Fashionista Roanoke, Inc. as a premier social-educational fashion show production company.

Garland has served as the Host, Fashion Director, and Fashion Designer Coordinator for the esteemed events, Taste of the Runway and the Fashion Project, where he has consistently promoted diversity and inclusion within the fashion industry.

Garland’s commitment to fostering inclusivity extends beyond the realm of fashion. He is a founding board member of the Roanoke Diversity Center, an LGBTQ+ Community Center that serves as a safe and supportive space for individuals within the LGBTQ+ community. He is an active member of the LGBTQ+ Committee for the Roanoke Branch NAACP, where he continues to advocate for the rights and equality of LGBTQ+ individuals.

Garland’s contributions to the LGBTQ+ community are further exemplified by his role as a Founding Father of the House of Expression, the first ballroom house in Southwest Virginia. Through his involvement, he has provided a nurturing and empowering environment for members of the LGBTQ+ community, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance.
