Lorenzo “Zo” Amani is the Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Industrial Bank, bringing extensive experience and expertise in the financial industry and public policy.

His career spans various prestigious institutions, including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and the U.S. Treasury Department.

With a proven track record in the financial sector, Mr. Amani has developed expertise in the Community Reinvestment Act, risk management, regulatory compliance, finance and administration, and strategy development and implementation. He has consistently demonstrated his ability to improve business processes, drive efficiencies, and ensure adherence to industry standards.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Amani served as a Policy Advisor in the Office of Consumer Policy at the U.S. Treasury Department, where he played a vital role in shaping consumer policies to protect and empower individuals in the financial marketplace. He also served as a Senior Consumer Compliance Bank Examiner at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, conducting comprehensive examinations of financial institutions to assess compliance with consumer protection regulations.

Mr. Amani’s commitment to community reinvestment and economic development led him to work as a Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Coordinator at the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC). In this capacity, he actively promoted fair lending practices and expanded access to credit and financial services in underserved communities.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Amani has pursued academic excellence. He holds an ABD (All But Dissertation) status for his Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Affairs from Virginia Tech. His research interests and expertise revolve around policy processes and systems, including their design, implementation, and evaluation. His dissertation focuses on the role of financial literacy state mandates for high school students in the United States. He evaluates financial education standards as a mechanism to equip young adults with the skills necessary to function effectively as consumers, savers, investors, entrepreneurs, and active citizens in a constantly evolving global economy.

Mr. Amani’s educational background includes bachelor’s degrees in Consumer Studies and Sociology from Virginia Tech, a master’s degree in Higher and Post-Secondary Education from Arizona State University, and a graduate certificate in Economic Development from Virginia Tech.

Throughout his career, Mr. Amani has been dedicated to education and mentorship. He volunteered as a financial literacy and economics education instructor at the Federal Reserve and served as an academic coach and mentor at Virginia Tech and Arizona State University.

Recognized for his exceptional leadership and expertise, Mr. Amani has served on various boards, including the Board of Visitors at Virginia Tech and the Board of Directors for the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA). These positions have allowed him to contribute to strategic decision-making, policy development, and the advancement of black professionals in public administration.
