Virginia Diverse Chamber of Commerce (VDCC) recently concluded its highly anticipated Entrepreneur 8-Week Training Program October 10, 2023 culminating in a thrilling Biz Pitch Competition that highlighted the exceptional talent and entrepreneurial spirit within Virginia’s business community and beyond. With 13 impressive competitors vying for the top three positions and cash prizes, the event was a testament to the diverse range of innovative ideas.
Claiming the prestigious first-place position and the grand cash prize of $3,500 is Dr. Dianna Dixon, President of Pump With Purpose. Pump With Purpose is a global lactation and postpartum private practice that offers consulting services to lactating families. Dr. Dixon’s vision centers around normalizing pumping and empowering families worldwide. Her dedication to promoting breastfeeding and supporting parents and infants stood out among the competition.
In a closely contested second place, Kimberly Major, President of Grace for Caregivers and Homecare Services, impressed the judges with her pioneering healthcare services company. Grace for Caregivers aims to transform the caregiving experience by offering comprehensive homecare services and caregiver support solutions. Major’s dedication to empowering caregivers and providing exceptional care garnered her the second-place cash prize of $1,000.
Securing the third-place position and a cash prize of $500, Tandra Brooks, President of Tandra’s Touch, LLC, showcased her creative design company. Tandra’s Touch specializes in crafting personalized events and designing custom party favors for special occasions. Brooks’ commitment to making every event unique and memorable resonated with the judges and set her apart as a standout entrepreneur.

While these three entrepreneurs claimed the top cash prizes, it is important to acknowledge the impressive efforts and ideas presented by all 13 competitors. Catherine Shavers of Ms. Caffy’s House Bakery, Lontonia Bryant of L. Bryant Counseling and Consulting, Shakia Taylor of Be You Movement, Naveda Walker of Veda Consultants DBA Thrivegirls, Stephanie Green of Power, Wealth, Profits, Nydia Wilson of Necessary Journey 2Gether, Billie Welchman of Core Solutions Group, Marline Paul of Enilram Creative Solutions, Shariah Jabbar Mitchell of OES Garden, and Simone Samuels of Lighthouse Housing Solutions all demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and contributed to the vibrant atmosphere of the competition.

The VDCC Entrepreneur 8-Week Training Program Biz Pitch Competition not only provided a platform for these entrepreneurs to showcase their ventures but also fostered collaboration, growth, and community support. Participants benefited from valuable mentorship, essential skills, and knowledge, creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem that celebrates diversity and innovation.

The Graduation

The graduation ceremony was a momentous occasion, graced by the presence of esteemed individuals who imparted their wisdom, inspiration, and insight to the class participants. Virginia SBA State Director, Carl Knoblock, delivered a captivating Keynote Address, setting the tone for the event with his words of encouragement and guidance.
Honorable Delegate Sam Rasoul shared his profound wisdom, inspiring the graduates to embrace their entrepreneurial journeys with passion and determination.
Judge Meredith Spies, the Marketing Strategies Director with Aetna Healthcare, provided invaluable insights into the judging process, offering valuable advice and perspectives to the graduates. Class instructor Adam Grundy, representing the US Census Bureau, uplifted the spirits of the participants with his words of encouragement, reminding them of their potential for success.
The President of the Virginia Diverse Chamber of Commerce Aldrica Lattimore commended and acknowledged the dedication of the class participants, as well as expressed gratitude to the sponsors, judges, and partners whose support made the program possible. 
Mark Robinson, representing Operation Hope, eloquently addressed the graduates, offering anecdotes and heartfelt recognition of their remarkable achievements.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity for each class participant to articulate what they found most impactful about the program. Their articulate speeches reflected the profound impact of the training, mentorship, and camaraderie they experienced throughout the journey. Guiding the proceedings with finesse, Michael Anderson, the chamber’s Public Relations Officer, served as a remarkable moderator, ensuring the smooth flow of the event.
The graduation ceremony was a celebration of the dedication, perseverance, and growth of the participants, marking the beginning of their entrepreneurial endeavors.
The collective wisdom, inspiration, and support provided by the distinguished speakers and moderator created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and motivation, inspiring the graduates to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys with confidence and passion.
